ThisisRnB Presents Allen Stone:The Voice of A Generation

ThisisRnB.com caught up with soul artist Allen Stone prior to he hit the stage at his sold out show at NYC's SOB's. The burgeoning singer/songwriter spoke about his socially conscious and politically inspired songs, including "What I've Seen," and "Unaware." Allen delved into his feelings about the state of our country, the economy, why things seem to have not changed, and more importantly being an artist that expresses these thoughts through soul music once again.

Friend Zone (Article)

So I have been meaning to write this article for a long time. It's been sitting as a draft for so damn long and I wanted to wait for the right moment to just go off. Now is the time. DO NOT EVER PUT ME IN A FUCKING FRIEND ZONE! Now this is a message that resonates more with males and their relationship with women. Every single man out here understands what I'm talking about. We dread the day that a woman just puts you in a Friend Zone and when you're in that bitch it's fucking hard to get out. What exactly is the friend zone? I think the picture above says it best. I swear on everything right now, to all my female friends out there, if you think I'm going to sit here and allow you to put me in the friend zone then you got the game all fucked up. Let me add some other great quotes to get you to understand the idea:

The friend zone can be used to describe somebody with whom you want to spend time but not necessarily pursue romantically. Marshall Fine, of the Huffington Post, suggested that it was "like the penalty box of dating, when your only crime is not being buff and unobtainable."

When a guy agrees to be friends, he's forced to stifle his attraction while regularly seeing and talking to the woman he's attracted to. She discusses her love life and has the audacity to ask his advice on it. He performs occasional "manly" household and automotive favors for the women. Essentially, he does everything a boyfriend would do – without the benefits.

After reading this I've realized that I'm not perfect. I've been caught in the web of a few friend zones. I somehow realized this after the fact and I either have to do something about it or just stay in my friend zone level. Here's another thing I noticed. I'm 24 years old. I have all the friends that I need in life based on years, experiences and more. I do not want nor need any more friends. No one is going to come and take the place of the friends that I've been dealing with for a long time. So ladies, do us men a favor and skip the whole "let's be friends" jargon as well.

I do not think women realize the predicament that she is placing a man in when she says that. Check it out. Some man just tried to know you better, took you out on a couple of dates, paid for it. Not because he wanted a new friend but eventually to advance in some kind of way sexually or dating wise or whatever you want to call it. The woman says no. She has every right to and men need to respect that. But then you say but we can chill and still be friends. Gasp! So you want me to chill with someone that I find attractive, that I wanted to be inside of and hold all that in so that every time I chill I think something will happen and it doesn't. No thank you. I've gotten blue balls in high school and I vowed for it to never happen again.

To backtrack a little, I'm a friendly dude. Most of the people around me know this and when I elect to chill with people it's my decision. When I do favors or hang out with a female friend of mine I'm genuinely doing it as a friend.

So that's all I have to say. Comment if you want. Share the article of course and let's eliminate the friend zone stuff. Thanks.
