So I was listening to Jay Z's new album "Blueprint 3" for the like the 15th time but this time I was really experiencing the album because I had the lyrics for each song up on my computer so I could really understand what Hov was talking about. I do this for most of the albums I listen to because it's like a class...The first time a teacher spits those facts at you it may not mean nothing as of yet but then you sit down and study it and you finally understand...Same goes with artists...It isn't until you sit back and realize the artistry that is going on...
This past 9/11 Michael Jordan was inducted into the Hall of Fame...That same day, Jay Z was giving a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, a concert that sold out in less than an hour...Something that I'm sure he will boast about in future interviews and songs...We've all listened to Jay Z mention Michael Jordan in his lyrics:
1. I am the Mike Jordan of recording (Encore)
2. I'm Michael Jordan, I play for the team I own (Best Of Both Worlds)
3. When I come back like Jordan, wearin the 4-5 It ain't to play games with you (Change Clothes)
I'm sure there are more but that was just from memory...But it wasn't until I heard "So Ambitious" and watched Jordan's Hall of Fame speech that the two stick together like white on rice...If you haven't watched the speech, MJ took time to thank those who lit his fire for the game...I thought it was great that he mentioned Leroy Smith, Bryon Russell, family members, other basketball players, Dean Smith and more..They all added wood to that fire and started that process for Michael Jordan to be one of the greatest basketball players ever...Now on Jay Z's part he has a song called "So Ambitious" that, in my opinion, reiterated his similarities to Michael Jordan's speech and legacy without naming him..What added the fuel to Jay's fire? Here are some lyrics:
